She was almost booed out of Hollywood after Glitter, but Mariah Carey can act. Really. Don't believe us? Check out the homely, tough-talking social worker in Precious. She spoke to Ramin Setoodeh.

What time is it?
It's late probably to you.

It's 1 in the afternoon!
I'm adjusting. I'm adjusting.

You've wanted to act for a long time, even before—
Yes. I've always wanted to. Not to cut you off, I'm sorry. I'm bad. When you have an opera singer for a mother, it's kind of like, sort of like, you cut people off. Cause she's grand, darling. She's very grand. So yes, I always have wanted to act. I didn't have the right support system, but maybe I needed that much of a fall to get where I needed to go.

And by "fall," do you mean Glitter ?
Yes. That period of time was just a mess, with Virgin Records and la-la-la-la. It is a la-la-la-la now because they don't exist.

How do you learn how to act?
I've been studying for a long time. I was studying prior to Glitter. I'm not blaming anyone, but the script wasn't even done when we started that movie, and it was all over the place.

What was hard about Precious ?
Aside from not using all my own mannerisms? I don't think anyone is going to care so much if an actress who exclusively acts does something with their hand that is reminiscent of two movies ago. If I was suddenly moving my hand up, they'd be like, she didn't get it.

What mannerisms did you get rid of?
I have so many Mariah-isms. I talk with my hands a lot. I'm very over the top, what can I say? This character is very cut and dried.

She wears no makeup, right?
It's beyond no makeup. Did you not see the redness under my eyes, nose—and the mustache? That's the only thing I care about. I lost all the vanity stuff, but when people really started analyzing, they have to ask about the mustache. Why is it important? Oh, my goodness, it's hideous. That's not my no-makeup look—just FYI. Could you let your readers know?

That's not what your husband, Nick Cannon, sees in the morning.
I don't think Nick would be here if that was my look.

Are you going to do comedies?
Darling, I want to, but I got to find a fabulous director. Actually, Brett [Ratner] better put me in his next movie, or I'll beat his behind.

What do you watch when you're at home in your pajamas?
You visualize me in pajamas?

Is that wrong?
I have some from the Beverly Hills Hotel. They're cute. But I tend to go the other route.

What do you mean?
I like lingerie.

I thought maybe nothing at all.
Yeah, we do that, too.

Mariah is in talks to play Vanessa Hudgens‘ mother in a movie

Mariah won critical acclaim for her role in "Precious" — is set to team up with the "High School Musical" star for a comedy flick based around the popular X-Factor and American Idol TV talent shows.

“Mariah is eager to capitalize on her acclaimed performance in Precious with another movie,” revealed one insider. “There is one project where she would play one half of a mother and daughter singing duo who audition for a TV talent show.

“Vanessa Hudgens has already been approached for the daughter role. The only sticking point seems to be whether Mariah feels comfortable playing mom to a teenager. She’s a little sensitive when it comes to her age.”

Mariah to Attend People's Choice Awards

Hugh Jackman, Taylor Lautner, Mariah Carey and Sandra Bullock are among the stars expected at next week's People's Choice Awards.

Steve Carell, Carrie Underwood, Ellen DeGeneres and LL Cool J are also set to attend the celebrity-filled ceremony on Jan. 6 at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live on CBS.

Queen Latifah will host the show in which fans vote for their favorite actors, musicians, movies and TV programs.

'Precious' named best film of 2009

Precious has been named the best film of 2009.

The Oscar-tipped feature, which has already received numerous Golden Globes and SAG award nominations, has been honoured by Rolling Stone magazine as the top film of the year.

The Lee Daniels-directed drama, which is produced by Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, stars an ensemble cast that includes Mo'Nique, Gabourey Sidibe, Mariah Carey, Paula Patton and Lenny Kravitz.

Other films included in the top ten were Up In The Air, The Hurt Locker, Where The Wild Things Are, (500) Days Of Summer and The Messenger.

Precious, based on Sapphire's novel Push, is currently playing in the US and arrives in UK cinemas on January 29, 2010.

Mariah: ‘Nick Cannon Makes me Feel Complete’

MARIAH Carey says she feels “complete” since marrying Nick Cannon.

The Obsessed singer wed the actor/rapper in a secret ceremony back in 2008.

And Mariah says she and Nick are happier than ever as they fast approach their second anniversary.

“People were surprised when we got married but it felt like the right thing to do and it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary for us,” she said.

“I definitely feel more complete than before. There’s a void you have when you don’t feel you’ve found the other part of who you are, so I’m in a different place now and that’s nice to experience.”

Carey recently insisted Cannon would make the perfect father to their future children.

“He’d be the best dad in the whole world!” she said earlier this month.

Mariah Gets Assists From Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo For Upcoming Remix Album

Although she's in Aspen, Colorado celebrating the holidays with her husband Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey made sure she got her work done before she left.

Before her winter getaway, the singer recorded a bunch of new music for her upcoming remix re-release of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, and filmed two new music videos.

Most recently, Carey filmed a video for "Up Out My Face," featuring Young Money first lady Nicki Minaj, where both musicians portray dolls.

Nick Cannon leaked stills from the video on his official website (NickCannon.com), where the two women appear in doll boxes, and in another shot toasting cocktails.

The other video is for the Ne-Yo-assisted track called "Angels Cry." The stills for this clip show Carey and Ne-Yo in the studio recording the track, and in another still she walking through the rain during her solo.

Cannon says "Angels Cry" is "simplistically genius. No bells and whistles, just documenting history and brilliance."

Carey's hubby reportedly directed both clips. At press time, it was unclear when they would premiere.

The remix album is set to hit stores on February 2010.

The initial Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel dropped in September, and sold a disappointing 344,000 copies. It's in stores now. To get your copy, head over to Amazon.com.

In addition to dropping the new album next year, Cary is set to hit the road on December 31st for an eight-week, 19-city "Angels Advocate" tour, set to wrap on February 27 at The Pearl Concert Theater in Las Vegas.

Tickets for the majority of the shows will go on sale on Saturday (December 26).

Eminem, or as Nick Cannon would call him “Slim Lamey,” wants Mariah Carey back, which was news to us since we didn’t know they ever dated. Mimi denies it, but Slim claims they were together for six months back in 2001, and his song “Bagpipes From Baghdad” targeted Mimi’s younger half, telling him to “back up” and Mariah, “I want another crack at cha, you can beat me with any spatula that you want.” Ah, love. Mimi fired back by dressing up like Eminem, sporting a familiar hoodie and goatee and dedicated her song “Obsessed” to him. Everyone’s favorite white rapper then released “The Warning,” a few minutes of whatever it is he does, threatening Mimi and her marital hood ornament.

Mariah Carey on Nick Cannon: 'He'd be the best dad'

Mariah Carey thinks husband Nick Cannon will be a fantastic father.

The singer

can't wait to start a family with the TV host as she knows how great he would be with any children they had.

She said: "He'd be the best dad in the whole world!"

Mariah and Nick - who wed last year following a whirlwind romance - were at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball and the 'Hero' star says the wellbeing of all children is one of her main priorities in life.

She said: "We have to take care of children. Any time I can be a part of helping out, I'm here."

Mariah, 40, recently revealed she feels "complete" since marrying Nick.

The singer - who was previously married to record company boss Tommy Mottola - said: "People were surprised when we got married but it felt like the right thing to do and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for us.

"I definitely feel more complete than before. There's a void you have when you don't feel you've found the other part of who you are, so I'm in a different place now and that's nice to experience.

"I think being able to collaborate with Nick and being in a really great place in my life is having a great impact on my music."

Mariah's got a lot to smile about

SINGAPORE: It is very easy to hate Mariah Carey. Why? Because no matter what happens to her, she always comes out smiling.

When she and Tommy Mottola got divorced, she came out smiling. When critics dissed her performance in the movie Glitter, she came out smiling. When people bitch/bitched about her size, she comes/came out smiling.

Of course, these days, she's got a lot to smile about.

Her current album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel has garnered favourable reviews, with her singles Obsessed (allegedly a slam at rapper Eminem), I Want To Know What Love Is and H.A.T.E.U all doing well on the singles charts.

Furthermore, movie critics have been rather positive about her recent roles in WiseGirls, Tennessee and Precious - definitely a far cry from the mauling she received a mere eight years ago.

And, even after all these years, if all the pictures we see of her are to be believed, the 39-year-old singer still looks hot.

And yes, she's smiling in all of them.

Is she just genetically made to smile? Is she really, really happy all the time?

When she was in Seoul to promote the album recently, a few things became instantly obvious: She loves short dresses and high heels; she says the word "like", like, a lot; and, yes, she smiles all the time.

Here's, like, what she said.

You look gorgeous: Any beauty tips to share with TODAY readers?
First of all, thank you! Let's see... I think what makes me feel best is sleep. Like, the more I sleep the better I feel. Like today I feel very tired. I think that I could look better today because I just couldn't sleep that well last night.

Why should we buy Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel?
What makes this album special and different to me from my earlier albums is that there's a lot of humour in it - like fun songs with beats that I really like. It was fun to collaborate with Tricky and The Dream. The thing is that you have to really listen to the lyrics. (If) you could figure it out, you'll get the joke and it's pretty funny.

And there are also very sad songs on the album and ballads that I think everybody can relate to. I've done ballads before but these ballads are very specific. Like there's a song called H.A.T.E.U and it really means that I can't wait to hate you because you still love the person and, you know, you wish you didn't.

And then of course I have the remake of I Want To Know What Love Is, but there are also songs - like if people like hip-hop and R&B - they're really going to like these songs. Even songs which are old-school R&B like Candy Bling - that's just one of my favourites.

Do you have any new projects?
I have my perfume right here, brand new, called Forever. And I really like it.

Honestly, I don't like perfumes but I worked very hard with Elizabeth Arden to make sure that it represented me, and they told me that I was the hardest working celebrity or designer who's ever worked with them. I thought that was pretty cool.

This is my third one now, and I'm hoping Elizabeth Arden will make sure it's everywhere in Asia.

So it's your perfume first now?
Not first. We stick with the music first, always have. And I'm excited about the new movie Precious that I have, and everything you know? Everything is just so great. Like my marriage and all that, but I love doing projects like this.

Because I even picked out the bottle - it's like an art deco bottle that I had in my bath room. It's like a combination of, like, three different ones. And so while we're working on the bottle, I said, "Wait a minute, I have some ideas coming from my bathroom". (Laughs)

Tell us a bit more about the movie Precious.
There's a book called Push, and the author is Sapphire. And that's what the movie Precious is based on. I had read the book a really long time ago, and for some reason, I remember the character that I play (social worker Mrs Weiss).

Lee Daniels, the director said, "I want you to look as homely as possible. I want you to look ugly. I don't want anybody to recognize you at all. You're not gonna have any type of hair that looks like you. I'm gonna put you a little moustache on you. You're gonna have stuff under your eyes. You're gonna be very hideous. And then you're gonna lose yourself into the part."

So that's what we did.

What would you say is one thing that you care most about in the world? What would you like to change?
Obviously we all care about the environment, and it's very scary, but there are also other things that I care about that seem to be getting better - like racism.

That was always something that, um, was very deep for me, because you know, I'm half black and half white, and that would be something I always felt nobody seem to understand.

Did you experience racism when you were younger?
Well, I had a friend when I was younger - but I won't say her name because everybody can be looked up these days. She was my best friend, but I didn't know she was pretty racist. My mum and I moved around a lot at that time, and on some days I would go to my father's house, so you know, I wanted to bring my friend.

(My dad) was, like, tall, and everyone agreed he was a very good-looking black man. But my friend had probably had never seen anyone black that wasn't on TV. I don't know what her parents had told her because racism and things like that get started when you're young. So, we got there, and she looked up - I'll never forget it - she looked up and she saw my father, and she started crying, and she got really, really scared.

My mother was still there in her car, and she had to take her home and back to her house because she was just freaked out. That was the first time, when i was little, when it was, like, "There was something really different going on here"!

In another event this December, Mariah is reportedly scheduled to co-host an invitation-only screening of the TeenNick HALO Awards with husband and TeenNick Chairman Nick Cannon at Washington, DC's NEWSEUM (555 Pennsylvania Avenue) on Wednesday, December 9 (6:30pm Arrivals, 7:30pm Screening). Photos and interviews will be available on the orange carpet with Nick and Mariah who will be joined by Senators, Members of Congress and the TeenNick HALO Award honorees.

Mariah ready to hit the road with the “Angels Cry” tour

The Prophet Blog can exclusively reveal that Mariah Carey is planning to hit the road next year for the official “Angels Cry” tour.

Named after the ballad from her new album Memoirs of An Imperfect Angel, the Angels Cry tour will see the diva performing hits from her new album as well as her extensive back catalogue.

The first official show of the tour will be Mariah’s special New Years Eve concert at Madison Square Garden, which features Trey Songz.

As of now the tour will remain in the States, but Mimi is looking into international dates with possibilities of extending it to a world tour, though nothing has been 100% confirmed yet.

The opening act has been confirmed as RydazNrtist, a new R&B group signed to Nick Cannons NCredible Entertainment. They recently released their first single “Sorry Ass Apology” which is currently being played on MTV. You can check out their new music video below.

Now, are you excited to see Mariah in concert? Will you be going to the Angels Cry tour? I think she should add “Breakdown” and “I Still Believe” to the set-list because she hardly ever performs them and they’re my favourite!
